Cambrian Hill was Alex’s first move from software into the world of physical products: a ready-to-drink Espresso Martini created in partnership with Kilderkin Distillery in Australia. What began as an experiment in brand building and product development quickly turned into a runaway success. The bottled cocktail combined high-quality ingredients, clean design, and a clear positioning in the premium ready-to-drink space, allowing it to stand out in a crowded market. Built without the backing of a large beverage company, Cambrian Hill gained traction through strong branding, strategic distribution, and organic demand. The product regularly sold out and developed a loyal following, eventually earning international recognition. The bottled cocktail went on to place Silver in the Australian Liquor Awards in the liqueur category, further validating the quality of the product. For Alex, Cambrian Hill proved that the same lean, creative approach that worked in software could also produce success in the physical goods space, turning a simple idea into a premium, fast-moving consumer product with real market momentum. As the brand matured, the partnership evolved into a licensing arrangement, with the distillery taking over full production and distribution of the product while paying Alex an ongoing royalty for the recipe. This transition allowed the product to continue growing under an established producer, while giving Alex a scalable, passive income stream from his first successful physical product.
